New Thread time. It's a blank canvas, go fill it with stuff Chums...

Ewan
10/3/2013 09:51:10 am

The challenge is about a, Danger Man, who also done time as the prisoner and Madness did a version of the theme :-)

Prez
10/3/2013 10:38:25 am

Too late mate, that challenge was revealed ages ago:))

Is anyone suffering today after the three game work out last night?

Neil
11/3/2013 12:55:22 pm

SUFFERING !!!!!
The pain the pain!
Actually its ok when I avoid going up stairs.
Or down stairs.
Or tying my laces.
Or walking.
Or breathing.
Or mast.......
Anyway it was a fantastic night out. Don't know why we haven't done it before but it really should be added to the c-ale-nder as a regular chum event.

And yes the Prez guessed correctly. The mystery theme was Danger Man.

Neil
11/3/2013 01:15:26 pm

Time for another.
I expect this one to be guessed very quickly.

Prez
11/3/2013 02:02:25 pm

If it's gonna be answered quickly I better have a go then.

I'll tell you what it is tomorrow people.

Neil
11/3/2013 04:08:19 pm

Correct once again.
Am I making these too easy?
Ok one more for tonight.
This ones not exactly hard when we were brought up watching this sort of stuff.

Prez

That's a difficult one.

Whoever gets it will be head of the class, or some such like.

NNN
3/4/2013 05:34:49 am

Nice to see pics of all of the events I missed over xmas period due to poorliness (oh, ok, man flu!) & the house warming pics, again missed, due to self inflicted misery of a hangover this time....I need rubbed out & drawn again. Hope to see some of you at Gareths 40th

Neil
3/4/2013 01:11:04 pm

Some nice pics on here but how bloody wasted do I look at Mill n' Amy's party? Been pretty busy lately but will hopefully be back on the chum track by next Saturday.
Ok now a clue to the challenge according to Wiki.
............................is a television drama for children produced by HTV in 1976 and broadcast on the United Kingdom's ITV network in January and February 1977

Nicky
9/4/2013 02:37:44 pm

So having just watched Neil's centrifuge experiment as Milgram would say 'put a man in a white coat........'
Thinking about it I wear a white coat at work every day but so does everyone else so put lots of people in lots of white coats = lots of authority figures with no one to boss about :-/

Neil
9/4/2013 03:15:25 pm

Its funny how we automatically trust anyone if they're wearing a white coat. (They're here to help you Neil just get in the van with the nice men)
Well done to IU/ITT for guessing the challenge (ahh the wonders of you tube). Just for that there will be no clues this time.
New challenge chums. Check it out.

Prez
9/4/2013 04:48:56 pm

Got it.

An 80's classic.

John Christopher wrote the very good books that the series were based on. I still have them.

I have just looked at my recently unpacked book collection and I am missing the second book of the three.

Damn. I used to have them all.

:)

Neil
10/4/2013 03:58:23 pm

Ok chums the prez knows but does anyone else?
I'll leave it on for now.
In the mean time there's another one to have a go at.

Good cheap chum day return on Sunday and no fall outs (apart from the contents of Jovi's pants) (oh and some musical differences) Lets do it again soon :)

Prez
13/5/2013 04:24:16 pm

Did anyone who had a McDonald's feel a wee bit poorly? I had a non-diabetic, non-alcohol puking fest for most of the next day.

But it was a grand day oot indeed, made even better for dropping £10 on the Napper quiz machine after we got back:)

A web page will be appearing shortly with editorial rights for all to upload the pics.

Neil
13/5/2013 04:28:38 pm

No puking but plenty of guffing from all involved. In fact I dropped more than a tenner this morning :)

Prez
13/5/2013 04:52:38 pm

I was not in a good place about 5:00 this morning. As Ian says I was shaking like a Sh*tting Dog.

Sigh mebby I'm just getting old...

I'm doing the Penrith page now. Online in 20 mins or so:)

Neil
14/5/2013 03:26:47 am

It's been a while but there's a new challenge in the music room.

Prez
14/5/2013 05:15:06 pm

'To bake an apple pie you must first create the universe'.

My first drinking Club was the Sagan's Slaves in honour of this very, very great man and this gobsmackingly profound TV series.

Your best challenge tune yet!

Neil
16/5/2013 06:10:31 pm

Absolutely 100% correct.
Well it looks like Weebly isn't going to let me load any audio today so I'll have to take a break from the challenge for now.

Neil
26/5/2013 04:08:12 pm

Just nicked Jonathan's Penrith photos off facebook and added them to ours.
Are we still waiting for someone elses?

Excellent towel usage there Ewan
I'm still thinking of Jays chicken :-)

Neil
31/5/2013 03:58:33 pm

FINALLY I've been able to upload a new tune so the challenge is back on :)

Prez
3/6/2013 01:36:10 pm

There's a slight technical hitch with the newly uploaded Penrith pics; you can't enlarge them.

Nicky can you try to upload them again or stick them to me at the next Chum club?

.x

Prez
3/6/2013 01:38:21 pm

Despite my best efforts to gain an unfair advantage and pump Neil for clues for this weeks challenge; I have no idea what it is.

He said it was a 1980's show if that helps anyone...

Prez
10/6/2013 05:06:14 pm

No one has mentioned the Chum away day on the 23rd. Is it still happening?

I'm back in Carlisle by the way.

Ewan
11/6/2013 10:33:29 am

Yep still on as i mentioned it on sat night but not planned as yet

Neil
13/6/2013 05:43:26 pm

Ok I can see this music challenge has proved too difficult even for our greatest minds.
Time for a new one.
Check it out in the music room.

Neil
13/6/2013 05:46:16 pm

In case anyone hadn't noticed.
There will be a small chumly party coming up next month.
See Neil's nerdvana for more details.

The Prez
13/6/2013 06:00:11 pm

I know it.

The Book-tower

An excellent ITV program with Tom baker as 'tower master' for a while.

The tune is part of Julian Lloyd Webber's variations. for an additional point what other ITV program used (and still uses) one of the other variations?

:)

Neil
13/6/2013 06:11:03 pm

Well that didn't take long :)
The theme sounds a little like Treasure Hunt with Anneka (fat arse) Rice but it also sounds a lot like the South Bank Show at the end. Am I close?

Prez
13/6/2013 06:27:02 pm

Yup, the South Bank Show.

There's some good youtube stuff with him and Gary Moore playing all the variations with a bunch of other serious musicos.

Go here....

Hmmm still no idea as to the latest Music Room TV challenge.

It sounds 'fishy', there was a 70/80s US thing that was about a marine man type thingy, is that it?

Someone like Bill Bixby was in it?

Neil
9/7/2013 04:05:23 pm

MMM I think the marine man type thingy you mean was "The man from Atlantis" with Patrick Duffy. The year is the same though 1977. This one replaced "Gemini Man" with Ben Murphy when it didn't do so well in the ratings.
Another clue. Imagine "Lost" if it was filmed in the 70's.

Sounds like piles?

Day three in Kentland. I have already commented that first impressions of Margate were it was Botcheragte-by-the-sea. Tired, rundown and in need of a good wash (just like me). Yesterday was taken up with the wedding so we did nowt but drink and eat all day and then the same again at night. The venue was a hotel so had the usual John Smiths rubbish. I hacked it as long as I could then went on Guinness after that got too heavy I tried Fosters lager then ended up on Krone-nbourg 1664 Sorry Chums I will of course offer to resign my Prez-ship for joining the light side but the Smiths really did taste like ....err John Smiths.

I have Zeitgeisted a Celebrity Stealth Chumming that took place whilst on the Amber nectar. Tried to explain to the other guests what Stealth Chumming was...not easy as the beautiful northern accent proves quite a handicap down here,

Today we went paddling and did seasidey stuff as Cheryl's birthday treat (she really is that easily pleased) then to see Deal Castle. Off to Bodiam Castle and Hastings tomorrow. After that Dorset here we come.

I hope the Chum night went well start chummenting any craick as I am out of the loop 'darn sarf' as they say here.

Finally Cheryl has asked me to say a big thank you to Ewan and Ruth and to Nicky and the rest of the Chums for her cards etc. She had fun opening them all by the seaside.

Chum, chum chum...

Prez

Thanks Nicky.

Arrived in Dorchester and god has it changed! I remember a sleepy little town but we are staying in a new development in a once underused area.

Off for food then a trip down beer-memory lane... I hope i am not as shocked by the change in the pubs as i was in the town.

Prez
19/8/2013 06:50:20 pm

Good news everyone (as professor Farnesworth would say) at least two of the pubs here are still 'as god intended'

Went to the Tom Browns tonight (as a Fan of JMF's Flashman books I gravitated towards this pub in the 80's because of all the memorabilia and the fact it brews its own ales in the back of the pub.

They still Brew Tom Brown and Flashman's Clout both excellent and now a brew called Durdle Door (6%)it is still a smashing boozer.

I walked past my most favorite pub here Goldies/ Brougham Arms and it looked even better. I am saving visiting there until tomorrow night.

We are going to Maiden Castle tomorrow, then Cerne Abbas (the chalk man with the big willy) the latter has a pub nearby that claims to be the narrowest in England so will get a tape measure and see if our one in Manchester can beat it.

BTW we had some time in Winchester and had a meal in the pub that claimed to be the oldest 'bar' in England. That's three I have been in

Ooops bed time.

Chum chum chum...

All very amusing choices I'm sure. How about including the translations.

Andy
15/9/2013 10:28:26 am

'Nunc est bibendum' - Now is the time to drink.
This gets my vote.

Prez
15/9/2013 11:07:36 am

Only problem is when you Google translate it, it gives it as ....

'Now is a regional'

I hear the sound of a gladius being unsheathed....

Andy
15/9/2013 12:13:59 pm

How bizarre, I rechecked the spelling and it is seems to be pucker.

Here's some blurb on the origin of the saying (not quite sure what the Michelin Man is doing on it though...)

http://twunch.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/nunc-est-bibendum.html

Prez
15/9/2013 12:54:48 pm

Yes It's from Horace and is a famous quote. It seems Google hasn't heard of it. Silly Google. There would be little danger of it being misunderstood as it is a famous phrase.

But I am playing with my new telly (42" LED HD) so am a bit distracted with all sorts of clever things it can do. My old one was 32" and @ 5-6 years old and a hell of a lot has changed.

I used to have a Heath Robinson ad hoc network that had developed piecemeal that required constant tweaking but tonight I have networked a 1TB NAS drive, 1 Windows Vista computer, two Windows 8 computers, an OS 10 Apple Mac and a Humax HDD recorder effortlessly(ish). It has really smooth iPlayer and you tube.

Prez

Hola señor McEwan. ¿Cómo es en México?

I was hoping to get a mexican chumment.

We got a text from Nicky but frankly this beats it:)

Just to make you feel happy it is gray, dull and raining here.

I have you down as in Mexico City and on your mobile phone. Is that right?

You were on the page for 1 minute(s) 28 second too:)

Great to hear from you. Better than a postcard. It must be tea time there is it? You must be a few hours behind us.

Yup, just checked you are 6 hours behind.

Neil
18/9/2013 03:46:00 pm

Quid enim bonum tibi est. Good for what ails you.
Grando in omni cervisie. All hail the ale.
Inter adepto. Get amongst. (one for Jovi)
Non agitare. Don't panic.
Unum in via. One for the road.
Suus mea sextarius. Mines a pint.

Prez
18/9/2013 04:01:42 pm

All good calls

I like Don't Panic and all hail the ale especially. Although the latter sound too much like my previous drinking club's motto (the High Church Of Big Beers) which was All 'ale the Big Beers!

Prez
19/9/2013 02:31:12 pm

So many mottos but there can be only one as the McLeod once said.

I will let the list sit for another week until the holiday Chums return and let them have there say they streamline it down to four or five. It is up to each Chum to post something positive about any they like. Those that receive no or negative comments won't get to the short list.

I do like the all hail the ale and the get amongst mottos and my one regret in life is not going to chickenpizza when we went to mexico

Neil
22/9/2013 06:41:03 pm

From the list of chum mottos these are my favourite five.
Because they are:
a. Easy to pronounce when drunk.
b. Actually roll off the tongue as mottos should.
c. Make us sound more intelligent and therefore more attractive.
d. Actually project a positive message to any would be chums as
to our aims and dreams in life.
e. Life? Don't talk to me about life
f. Its all bollocks. They're short and sweet and I just like the sound of them.
Carpe cervisiam - Seize the beer.
Nunc est bibendum - Now is the time to drink.
Inter adepto.- Get amongst.
Bibo ergo sum - I drink, therefore I am.
In dubio cerevisiam - When in doubt have another beer.

Man cave prez? More like Man bridge. I like the Okudagrams. Shame you don't have a proper captain's chair with things that go beep beep on it. What's behind the mysterious door? Ten forward?

Prez
25/9/2013 06:24:39 pm

The Glass door leads to a turbo shaft giving access to the rest of the house. Behind the black blinds is a place of strange new worlrds with new life and new civilisations...or the back garden as it's also known.

Prez
25/9/2013 06:59:00 pm
