A variety of life can be found along The Coastline.

Beadlet anemone (Actinia equina)

Common jellyfish (Aurelia aurita).

Shore crab (Carcinus maenas) and Common (or Blue) mussels (Mytilus edulis))

Sea Ivory (Ramalina siliquosa). A lichen found on coastal rocks and stone walls.

Common Sea Urchin (Echinus esculentus) with its working parts removed.

Hermit crab (Coenobita spp.)

Dessicated Lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula).

Not smoke on the water, but billions and billions of Lake flies.

A regular coastline inhabitant, the Oyster catcher (Haematopus ostralegus)

An Island visitor, the African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) at sunrise.

The nearest living relative of the elephant, The Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis). The relationship stems from a remote ancestor common to hyraxes, sea cows (dugongs and manatees) and elephants. These three are unlike other mammals, but they share various physiological similarities in teeth, leg and foot bones, testes (that do not descend into a scrotum) and other more obscure details.

A rare visitor to the Island's coastline, a species of Rock agama (Agama spp.).

Cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus).

Common (or Harbour) seal (Phoca vitulina).
