The Poop Deck
T'ArendsnestThe Eagles Nest - Superb modern bar dedicated purely to Dutch beers and Genevers - It is THE place to visit if you like your beers - Usualy 30 beers on tap and over 200 bottles from all the dutch microbreweries. The choice is extensive and the staff very knoweldgeable - they really do know their beers and are very happy to guide you through the different choices available.
This is one of my main places of worship of the amber dark pale ambrosia |
In De WildemannOriginally a distillary tasting room now converted into a bar with an extensive range of beers mainly Dutch and Belgian with at least one british real ale on tap. A good selection of bottled beers as well.
Lovely understated decoration, tiled floor and interesting wooden carved bar. Fairly specialist with Spring and Autumn Bok beers featured heavily at each equinox. Autumn boks from 6-11% - Dark, Malty, slightly sweet and totally unforgiving - The Emelisse Dubbelbok at 11% was absolutely wonderful, until i got outside into the cold air. Amazingly i still managed to get the photo of the exterior in focus!! I did cheat by wrapping my Gorilla onto a bike outside as an impromptu tripod - much to the amusement of passing pedestrians |

Cafe Hesp, AmsterdamWhat is Hesp? Hesp is a dark brown café in a very odd corner of Amsterdam, sandwiched between the river and the railway line, just about the length of a particularly long train of irate commuters away from Amstel Station. As the colourful leaded glass front door says, it's been going since 1890.
It has the usual mismatched wooden furniture, bare floorboards and nicotine-dark walls. A collection of beer memorabilia brightens up the place a little |
