Jay reminded me that the Perseid meteor shower is taking place over the weekend...

This year, the moon will be full on Aug. 13just in time to seriously hamper, if not all but prevent, observation of the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower, which is predicted peak overnight on Aug. 12 and 13. Bright moonlight will flood the sky all through that entire night and will certainly play havoc with any serious attempts to observe these meteors.

The Perseids are typically fast, bright and occasionally leave persistent trains. And every once in a while a Perseid fireball will blaze up bright enough to be quite spectacular. The meteors are more than capable to attract attention even in bright moonlight.

With this as a background, perhaps the best times to look this year will be during the predawn hours several mornings before the night of full moon. That's when the constellation Perseus (from where the meteors get their name) will stand high in the northeast sky.

Of course the bloody weather wont help either:)

Hey Prez. Good to hear the holiday's going well, liking the photos. On the subject of photos, think me & Den have identified your mystery dragonfly now that we've seen pairs of them, it was a toughie! It's called a 'Black Darter', the male & female are completely different & you saw the female. The male is virtually completely in black whereas the female is lighter & more colourful, much prettier- a bit like the chums really :)

Sitting in the hotel bar. Cowboys and Aliens was, i Thought, surprisingly good, but Cheryl disagrees.

Probably seeing it in Digital Mastered Surround Sound made it quite the experience.

Off to Caldicot Castle tomorrow then a night of stand up comedy at the local comedy club.

The barrel bar looks nice very oldy worldy :-) Dennis and I were reliving our ice skating experiences at Wed club there were no triple salchow's from us, hope you have a good time. We tried some quiz questions yesterday but I fear I wasn't reading them so well after several glasses of wine. Have a great time you two on your road trip :-)

Hello Chums..
I have just become aware of this site, and would just like to say how much i have been enjoying looking through the photos of Silver Clouds Carlisle Return..They of course very kindly allowed me to get up on The Brickyard stage and perform a few numbers with them..one of which 'Emily' a Silver Cloud original that has been a favourite song of mine , since Toddy first played it to me.. The whole day had been a little bit of an adventure for me..meeting up with Toddy, then haring it up to Carlisle from Bolton to set up at The Venue..Then into the pub beforehand.. Where I threw myself enthusiastically into the general good vibe feeling of the occasion..By the time i got to the stage i was more than ready to Party..which is probably why i spent a lot of time forgetting myself and swearing a lot whilst getting the sing songs going...i'm not usually an excessive cusser, so i blame the Carlisle Beer..;) Overall it was a great night..I was pleased for The Silver Cloud lads that it went so well for them...and pleased i had been given the Chance to return to Carlisle..to perform in the same venue (albeit with a Different name) that i had first played back in the early 80's with Spider. ..To those of you who were there , thanks for the hospitality and the friendliness..it was much appreciated, and hopefully it won't be too long before i visit Carlisle again..Good wishes to you all..Col..

You will all be pleased to know that I phoned up and complained about the gummy body parts resembling internal organs and how disappointed we all were especially Jay birthday boy (see photo). They are sending an email to the appropriate merchant to check their stock (which should be fun as you can't see into the packet) anyway they offered me a replacement packet but I said alas it's too late for young Jay he's gutted. but I can take the packet back to be reimbursed so that's my quid back then YAY! :-) Hope you had a nice birthday Jay xXXx

Couldn,t agree more, an absolute crackin' night. Just when we all thought we were past doing fancy-dress!!! There were some really cool costumes, a lot of dodgy dental work & some really wierd eyes! On a lighter note, i was wondering if any chums are interested in the gig on the opening night of Sound on the 3rd December featuring Magnum, It Bites & Falling Red. For £10 [before 21st November then it's £15 or £17.50 on the door] you get free entry into Club Rock later. Sounds like good value of anybody's money. In our inebriated state on Saturday (we'd been out all day, I'm sure those that said hi could tell!)we didn't get tickets for Magnum.....ITT changed his mind, he may well change it again! Gizmo was at the Blues fest with his brother, he popped into the Napper to say hi during the break on Sat.

Back from HRH V phew!!! what a cool weekend, Thanks for your well wishes everyone Maka and I have differing opinions about who was the best band as our music tastes can be very different, we managed 22. I have put a few pics up on Makas page to give you a taste of the events and a little game of spot the rock star that I managed to accost (poor things). Some great pics fom HRH V, Maka & Nicky. No idea who the rock stars are apart from Spike, although the guy with the beard looks like he could be from Michael Monroe's band (please enlighten us).

The Chumments page is buzzing with comments again after a quiet period. The chain is getting long again. I may start a new one in the new year.

I think we should also have a Xmas calendar so we can lay out planned drinking days in advance.

Love the idea of the Xmas Quaffing Calender, just goes to show that we can actually organise a 'p*ss-up in a brewery'. Next gig is Jon Amor in Club Rock on Friday. Thrash Metal to the Blues in one week, not bad going! Me & Den will be at a works do on Saturday but will catch up with the birthday Chums at Club Rock or even a cheeky last pint in the Napper. See if Kimmers lets a few secrets out of the bag when she has some lubrication on board :)

Good work on the cALEndar folks, but mebby each choose a colour to write stuff, it makes it easier to read:)

It seems to be being used. Nicky suggested it could be used for highlighting bands and gigs etc which is a really good idea.

It's an edited version of the first two albums cos they both would'nt fit on one disc (i don't think you'll be too bothered about a track featuring Ginger Baker describing how to make a cup of tea!). Hi everyone just thought I’d post this note to say I am fine and the bleeding has stopped I think although I have not taken the bandage (plaster) off yet as you may have heard or not I was glassed while in the Kings head last night I say I but Cheryl was close by but did not seemed to be injured like me, the blood that ran out of the wound and down onto my jeans will come out I am told but I will be left with a scar and may have a sling for it for a week or too so if you see me at the bar holding my wound I will gladly accept a(few) beer of you and tell you all about how I was glassed that night

It was a shocking thing to behold. I saw the glass coming at you from behind and It all happened so fast I couldn't have helped. I was amazed at all the blood, and the size of the wound.

Perhaps the greatest scar you will have will be a psychological one...I hear beer helps PTSD.

hi prez a frenchie is more a way of life as opposed to life,they fart and snore and want to live on your knee but they do have cuteness in abundence and are very intelligent,they can spot band members from afar unlike mrs makar so make worthy partners for quite a while
